Pickup and delivery is available, however, due to rising fuel costs, we are now charging fifty cents a mile for the transporting of horses. A 24 hour notice for pickup and delivery services are required, so please be sure to schedule your horses in advance. We have daily and weekly rate payments available for the horses. Hourly rates are only available for guided trailrides at the ranch.

We will need instructions to your location. You may email them to us at t@horses4rent.com. If you would like to provide instructions over the the phone, please have them ready for us when you call. Directions should include mile markers, exit numbers and other necessarry information pertaining to your location. We will deliver horses to all locations easily accessible by road. An additional fee will apply if your delivery is at a remote location requiring an extensive hike.

Private transportion is welcome with approved equipment. This will require a valid drivers license, proof of a current insurance policy on the vehicle that you will be using and a person who has had prior experience in the hauling of livestock.

Winter weather deliveries

Please be advised that extreme winter weather conditions may prevent convenient pickup and delivery services in some locations of Oregon. It may become necessary for you to meet our drivers with the horses at a secondary alternate location. This will be the nearest paved road that is the closest to your requested location and will automatically apply when it becomes obvious that a driver is unable to reach you at your requested destination safely.

Feed and Water

All of our horses are fed and watered prior to a delivery. Once the horses are in your care, you will be responsible for the maintenance thereafter which includes a proper diet, and sufficient water. You will need to make sure that water is available for the horses whenever possible if you are traveling, and at all times if the horses are corralled or tied. We would like to remind you that if you are packing into your location, you will be packing feed also. You may need another horse specifically for this purpose, unless you will be walking to your destination while the horse packs its feed. Again, You will need to make sure that your horses have plenty of drinking water available to them at all times.

Information

Trail riders should be capable of operating and maintaining a horse. Be sure to check with the Forest Service, Beareau of Land Management, Portland Parks and Recreation and private landowners to make sure that your desired trails have been groomed for the season before you go. This will help you to eliminate access complications and enhance your trail riding experience. No refunds will be given upon the return of a horse.

Packing

If you have ever dreamed of operating your own outfit, Mountain Pass Ranch LLC is the place to get your horses. Our horses have all been trained to pack game as well as equipment. We will not assist you with the loading of panniers, camping supplies, knots and any other thing associated with your packtrip. You will be responsible for your horses and all of the associated equipment, including but not limited to securing your packs and cinching your saddles. If you prefer an outfitters assistance, please call a licensed outfitter and pay the outfitters price. There is a standard weight limit of one hundred and twenty-five pounds per pack horse that is packing supplies and equipment. This standard does not apply to trail riders. Canvas panniers are generally twenty-six inches in height, twenty inches wide, and nine inches deep. Cardboard boxes of this size or smaller will slip right into the panniers like a glove. If you are planning to add weight on top of your horse, add the box weights plus the added weight to figure out your total (before you go). Packages should be equal in weight so as to better balance the load. This will help you to eliminate the need to re-load your horse on the trail.
